The club comprises of individuals aged between 9 and 14 years old. Apart from the free daily tuition, which provides academic support to these children, they are also involved in dancing, cooking and baking classes as well as sports activities weekly.
Gift of Reading
Gift of Reading (GOR) is a community initiative of Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. While previously under the umbrella of the Taman Jurong Citizen’s Consultative Committee (TJCCC), GOR has recently moved under Tasek Jurong. It aims to inculcate the love of reading in young children aged 3 to 7 years old. GOR conducts weekly programmes with well-trained and dedicated student volunteers. Pioneered in 2004, this programme is able to continue its services, thanks to the involvement of committed and passionate volunteers from various secondary schools, polytechnics and junior colleges.
In 2017, the Company launched KidSTART in partnership with Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA). It is a weekly community-based program for parents or main caregivers and their children aged between 1 to 3 years old. The program aims to stimulate the child’s development and improve the quality of child-parent interactions by sharing evidence-based strategies, and providing educational resources for the children. It also hopes to enable the children to achieve age-appropriate developmental milestones and school-readiness.
Other programmes that Tasek run are Gift of Music (GOM), Soccer For All (SFA) and Tuition For All (TFA). GOM is a percussion group made up of 10 to 19 year-olds, who are given the opportunity to learn music and play Brazilian musical instruments. Its mission is to provide equal learning opportunities for all. SFA was set up to cater to members under 14 years old. Street soccer and futsal trainings are conducted twice a week with matches conducted from time to time. TFA was set up for the boys and girls in the BOLA, GOM, GC and BC groups to assist them in their school studies.
